The outdoor concerts at Bab Boujloud during the week of the Fez Festival are always popular and feature the best of the festival acts and a variety of popular Moroccan performers. Saturday night, June 2nd, featured Moroccan singer Latifa Raefat. Excitement filled the air as the crowd gathered in front of the stage and the back up band went through their warm-ups. When Latifa took the stage in an emerald green caftan embellished with gold embroidery, the crowd pressed forward shouting and waving as fans attempted to attract her attention.
Golden light from the setting sun washed the walls of the city as swallows dipped and turned overhead. The hard-driving drum beat of contemporary Moroccan music had the audience smiling and clapping. Little girls in sailor dresses, women in djellabas, teen-aged boys and older spectators were all enjoying the concert. In fact, it's exactly this mix of people and enthusiasm that makes the concerts at Bab Boujloud some of the best of the whole festival. Each night from June 2 - 10 starting at 6:30 in the evening there will be a different featured performer.
