Safety in Morocco

I am traveling to Morocco soon and am actually planning to move there as well. However, I have been reading stories about increasing terror threats in Morocco. Can anyone tell me if Morocco is still a safe place to travel. I am American and I just worry that people won't differentiate me from my government. I appologize if this question makes me sound a bit closed minded.

Morocco has a very soft line approach to Islam, so terrorism is minimal. Crime-wise, violent crime is practically unheard of - much more likely to be attacked in UK or USA. Women are safer there.
Luckily Morocco is basically malaria-free. There are a few areas near the border with Mauritania that can harbor malaria but it's an unlikely destination even for the hardiest of travelers.

Are you saying that tourists do not go to Mauritania? I was thinking of maybe going down there in wintertime.
