Wednesday night at Bab Makina and Thursday afternoon at Bab Boujloud, festival-goers were treated to Hadhra (The Presence) from Tunisia.  A production of actor Fadel Jaziri, Hadhra was originally done in 2001, the performance brought together a talented collection of musicians, singers and revered poetic texts to present a musical voyage into the world of Muslim mysticism.  The most unexpected part of the show was the R&B slant, including a light show, that gave the production a thoroughly modern twist on traditional.  One could almost imagine Hadhra sharing the stage with the likes of Eric Clapton or BB King, yet the spirit of the music remained true to its roots.  An interesting and enjoyable program that left us wanting more.
